When Rei moved to Canada, Rei did not speak any English and did not know anyone in Toronto. As soon as Rei moved to Canada, Rei connected with a drug because he did not have any social connection with anything in Toronto. Shortly after, Rei moved out from Canada and backpacked around South America and Asia. Rei came back to Toronto 2016 to study a Social Service Program at George Brown College. Rei has been working as a harm reduction worker since his graduation. Rei has provided overdose prevention and Naloxone training to over 1000 students. Jazzmin: Hi, I’m Jazzmin Aivaliotis [she/they]! I am a youth worker and poet with mental health disabilities who enjoys reading tarot and cooking with my roommates. I have studied child and youth care, as well as psychology and critical equity studies. In the 1990s I had an amazing opportunity to accompany a seasoned traveller and recorder of ambient nature sound, to Malaysia, a beautiful part of the world, home to Taman Negara, a 130 million years old rainforest and spectacular seacoasts. The ultimate goal was to create a 24 hour cycle jungle soundscape. To 'dry out' after days spent in this hot and humid environment, we would seek out the pristine beaches and marvel in their aesthetic elements. This song holds some of the vivid memories.
